Lance Seidel ('59) was the 3rd in the consecutive string of outstanding football running backs to star at George Mason. Lance rushed for over 1,000 yards in his sophomore, junior, and senior seasons. He was selected All-District 1st Team in football his junior and senior years. In 1958, Lance was named First Team All-Met in football and was also honored as the Virginia State Scoring Champion. During that 1958 (9-game) season, Lance scored a total of 164 points and rushed for 1,612 total yards. He averaged over 18 points per game, had an 8.1 yards-per-carry average, and led the Mustangs to a number 16 ranking among all schools in the Maryland, D.C., and Virginia area by the Washington Post.

Lance was a member of The .5682 Mile Club (1,000 Yard Rushers in a Season) three times over: 1,193 in 1956; 1,311 yards in 1957; and 1,612 yards in 1958. He also holds third place position of the most career rushing yards in George Mason's history with 4,116 yards between 1956 through 1958.
