Judy Fruland ('55) was the first exemplary female athlete at George Mason. She excelled in both basketball and softball (the only sports offered to girls at George Mason during that time) and was the first female George Mason athlete to be named All-District in any sport when she was selected in both basketball and softball her junior and senior years. In her senior year, Judy averaged 26 points per game and set the school single-game scoring record (at that time) of 39 points in a league game against Warrenton. Judy was named the Most Valuable Player in the District Basketball Tournament during her senior year.
